Although she is a Duke's daughter, Maria is a very dignified person who does not despise the aristocrats below her. Maria attributes her kindness to her previous fate to die from the Sixteenth Year Death Curse; so she didn't let social standards keep her from being nice to everyone regardless of status.

Maria is the younger daughter of the Duke from House Albert.
In the past, her ancestor defeated a powerful wizard, and due to the latter's curse she was born with the Sixteenth Year Death Curse, a Cursed Skill that causes waves of violent pain to attack the body in a set cycle and leads to its user's death on their 16th birthday.
Manifesting her symptoms since she was a child, Maria always had the support of her family and Amane. After joining the Hero Academy so she wouldn't be unemployed if she survives, Maria deduced that Noir had the Editor Skill and approached him in the hope that he would save her from her curse, which later happened with Luna's help.
